(NOVEMBER 2008) Nineteen years ago this month, Envision Radio Networks’ Chop Shop Guitar Show host Steve Black (WRIF-FM/ Detroit) sat down for his first radio interview with the members of Savatage, a band that would later spawn the uber-successful Trans-Siberian Orchestra project. Nineteen years later, things swung full-circle for Black’s 500th career interview in Omaha, NE, where he caught up with the members of Trans-Siberian Orchestra as they were rehearsing for their annual holiday tour. Over the course of 500 interviews, Black has spoken with legends (Sir George Martin, Les Paul) guitar gods (Tony Iommi, Edward Van Halen, Slash,) and many of rock and roll’s veteran musical architects and bright young stars.
