(AUGUST 2009) – This year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was an “event,” but not necessarily in the way that all might have hoped. Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler took a well-publicized tumble from the stage, Buckcherry’s Josh Todd was stricken with bronchitis, and Sturgis got a personal visit from one hell of a hailstorm. Jeff Ryan, program host of Envision Radio Networks’ American Biker Minute, detailed the stormy events on his blog:

“Cops say they ran the sirens, trying to warn bikers, but it was already too late. Inside the Buffalo Chip campground alone, thousands of cars, motorcycles, & RVs were decimated by hail which began as ice-cube sized, and ran on up into the major leagues of baseball proportion. Nearly every vehicle in and around Rte 34 on the hill outside of town, was damaged, some so badly they had to be towed. Inside the Chip, one of those bb-sized ice orbs smashed through a tent, hitting a biker in the head, leaving him unconscious. (That would be the meat wagon we heard screaming up the access road just after the storm passed.)”

American Biker Minute is a 60-second infotainment segment about motorcycle enthusiasts and the casual biker lifestyle that can be used as a benchmark feature in mornings or throughout the day. The program blends timely pop-culture content with unique sponsorship opportunities for clients looking to reach listeners fascinated by the motorcycle lifestyle. American Biker Minutes’ interviews, actualities and tidbits make this turnkey imaging product easy for stations to program and sell. Contact Matt Wardlaw at 216-831-3761 for broadcast details.
